Hello everyone,
New to this forum but it seems there are a lot of helpful people on here
I've just purchased a Victorian ground floor flat (1860's I think) It is part of a 3 story town house that was split into 3 seperate flats by a local authority.
I've got a few questions
The small hallway has a suspended timber floor, but that is where it ends, the bedroom, living room and kitchen all seem to have been filled with concrete. The bedroom also has a drain in the centre of the room.
I started moving some of the floor tiles before I realised they probably contain asbestos???
The cellar assessable part of the cellar is under the timber floor, however it seems the rest of the cellar (the part that lies under the concreted rooms) seems to be bricked up and inaccessible.
Outside the building, I can't find any airbricks, seems like the front has been filled with concrete and this slopes down gradually to the pavement....is the the result of underpinning or something else?
I don't have a crazy budget, and my orginal plan was to get in there and level the timber subfloor and lay engineered wood, but the concrete floors have thrown a spanner in the works.
Okay, not many questions there, mainly observations. But if anyone with knowledge of these things could share a little more light on what I am dealing with I would be so grateful.
I got the flat cheap, but I think i'm going to find out why...
All the best,
Paul
