Hello,
We recently moved into an old Granary building that needs renovating. The majority is a single skinned building.
There is currently electric storage heaters and the house was not lived in for 2 yrs.
There is damp from condensation and also water ingress from the damaged external west wall.
The entire west wall has been ground out and repointed with lime and new guttering has been installed. The outside level has also been checked and is not higher than the internal floor height.
The walls on the other sides are all pointed with cement and there isn’t signs of damp on those walls.
Upon inspection, the internal walls in the rooms that have become damp are gypsum plaster over cement render.
Do we need to remove all the gypsum and cement render and replace with lime?? Or will having repaired the wall and gutter solved the problems, once heating is installed?
Many thanks in advance.
