The house is in South London.
Since purchasing in 2021, I have hated the exterior colour and prefer the original brickwork. I completed an internal renovation and now want to renovate the exterior.
The previous owners painted the house with what appears to be a non-breathable paint. This has kept moisture within the bricks, turning them to dust.
I prefer to restore the brickwork, but I am not sure it's possible, given the level of damage. The eventual cost of restoring could be c.£20k
I've spoken with contractors who have said the following:
Any advice is welcome. Please also let me know if I've missed anything.
Thanks

I've spoken with contractors who have said the following:
- Restoration is not possible, so it should be painted over - to me, this is just masking over the problem but is the cheapest solution in the short term (c.8k)
- Render the property and insulate the outside (c.£12-15k) - this appears to be the most practical solution as it would improve my EPC rating and resolve the moisture issue. However, doing this would lose the period features and, in my opinion, it does not look as nice. It may also decrease curb presence and value. My neighbour's house (pictured) has been rendered grey for comparison.
- Re-point the entire exterior. This would require removing the paint and a full restoration of the brickwork. (c.£20-25k)
Any advice is welcome. Please also let me know if I've missed anything.
