I'm in the process of buying an old property and had an historic surveyor around today. He stated parts of the house were damp most certainly from a concrete outer render (with cracks in it) and gypsum plaster interior walls. I was wondering, if I lime plastered the interior walls would that be sufficient to allow the walls to dry out and breathe or would the concrete render also have to go which I'm assuming to lime render the exterior of a 6 bed farmhouse would put me back at least £30,000 or so. The house is mainly constructed of brick.
