We are in the process of renovating our 1870s house and cant seem to get any good information on what to do with the floors. Any advice very welcome.
The back of the house and hallway floor is very large lime flagstone layed directly on earth. I would keep them but lots are badly cracked and very uneven but also the previous owner has screeded directly over the top and it wont come off. Therefore need to replace.
I've spoken to a couple of places and they appear to need a 'concrete' base to lay a stone floor on so cant replace like for like.
Therefore options seem to be:
1. Remove and replace with limecrete - Unfortunately this is cost prohibitive
2. Remove and replace with concrete and dpm - Concerned this will cause damp issues.
Surely I'm not the only person ever to come across this but can't find a good breathable option.
