Hello!
Just making plans for external repairs and paint on one side of black and white timber frame farmhouse. I heard a while ago that it was considered best just to leave the beams these days and not to paint/oil/ stain them. Is that still considered right? I think the beams would die down to a grey colour as they were painted black but imagine it could take years and years to look uniform? If that’s considered best for the wood then fine, but looking at mine it doesn’t look as though they are weathering well with nothing on them? They were oiled I think (8 years ago?) rather than painted (not sure what with) and previous to that always black paint. Any thoughts on how to best approach / conserve would be much appreciated. Someone mentioned Sadolin to me a while back, but I can’t remember who or why!
Many thanks... Hazel
