Hey all, I'm in the middle of refinishing some internal 6 panel doors and have come to a bit of a crossroads.
The internal doors seem to have been treated and repaired pretty badly over the years with big globs of unsanded filler, random areas filled with silicone filler, drippy paint work and generally just being mistreated over the years.
I've stripped them back to bare wood, carefully pryed off the panel mouldings, sanded everything and have pinned and glued them in place. They look 100x times better and have none of the accumulated crud.
Now here's my query. Some of the gaps between the panel mouldings and the door are quite large and I think they need filling but I'm not really sure what filler to use. (This was where someone had attempted to fill them with bathroom silicone filler!)
I've read it should be something flexible to allow the panels to shift but I'm not 100% sure what to use. Is decorators caulk the right thing to use? Or should I just leave them as is to allow for any future movement. I do think some sort of filler will give a neater finish.
It feels like a very basic question and I'm probably overthinking this but would just like to get some advice from someone more experience before I start slapping something unsuitable on (especially considering how long it's taken to get to this point!)
