Our 18th century farmhouse has been rendered and painted prior to us buying it. I know ideally you would remove all render but that is a massive job and might damage stonework. No blown bits and its all in really good condition. I therefore have decided to at least get rid of paint (Dulux weathershield I believe) on the stone foundation plinth - the idea being that this will aid the breathability of the base of the wall. We have no DPC. Underneath the paint is either a thin layer of cement or possibly a layer of lime render I can't tell which. Whatever it is, it seems like it will have to go as no way to remove just the paint it it would look odd anyway. What would be best way to continue this work and finish off exposed stone? Pictures show a small bit of trial work. Sandblast?
