Seeking lime contractors in Hampshire

Post by charliescarr » Thu 10th Sep, 2020 9:31 am

I would be very grateful for recommendations for contractors who could carry out the following work on my Victorian house, in Southampton, Hampshire.

* Lime plastering
* Repointing/repairs to brickwork (lime mortar)
* Exterior lime rendering

I don't mind if any contractors don't do all of the above, as we are likely to have to phase the work anyway.

The house is a detached, c1840-1860, with a mixture of cavity and solid walls, which have been covered at some point in roughcast cement render outside and cement plaster inside. I believe all the mortar in the brickwork is still lime mortar.

Is the intention to remove the cement render etc and replaster/render in lime?

It may be worth speaking to Andy Holden - 01243 811863. Email: andy@historicplasterwork.co.uk. He’s based in Chichester.

Yes, that's the plan! And make any repairs to the brickwork that might be required, although we won't know what that might involve until the cement plaster and render are removed.

I also don't really know how much to expect to pay. We are looking at two rooms, approx 3m x 4m x 2.5m, with 3 of the walls being external. Does anyone know of a ready-reckoner so I can prepare the bank balance?
