A new yellow plastic gas pipe was laid all down our road, a metre or so from our house in the Summer. After the cowboys had left, we found out that 3 clay sewers had been smashed, then left and covered over. We didn't know anything about it until sewage started backing up them on to our properties. The cowboys had kindly attempted a makeshift repair on our neighbour's by rolling up an old traffic cone and pushing it in to one broken end to kind of bridge the gap. Since then the water company have turned up and dutifully repaired the sewers, digging up the road again and installing temporary traffic lights on each occasion. It is quite clear that the yellow gas pipe was not buried deep enough for the sewer pipes to pass over the top of it so they were broken.
Since then, our cellar which has been completely dry for 14 years first got some damp patches on the floor, then the whole floor became damp and now we have water is pooling on one side of it. We don't know where this water is coming from, but it seems rather a coincidence. There's no evidence of it seeping through the walls so we can only assume it's coming up under the cemented floor.
Any advice / info would be much appreciated.
