We have an 1880s old school and once finished it will have a mezzanine floor but otherwise be double height open to the roof. The building has a tiled roof on laths which have been plastered from underneath between the rafters. There is no felt beneath the tiles. The roof is is dry, in good shape and doesn’t need replacing. The odd patch of plaster has fallen, but pretty much all that’s there wouldn’t come down without fair persuasion!
SO - insulation. We want to insulate between the rafters from underneath then clad with tongue and groove boards. We know that we’ll need an air gap between top of insulation and plaster/tiles so that’s the first question - would you remove or leave plaster? Either way we are thinking of a wire web to provide air gap then insulation .... but what to use? Have looked at thermo jute, wool or phenolic slabs. Any advice or experience to share please?
I have photos, but can’t work out how to add them to the post- could someone provide step by step instructions, please?
Thanks
