Our 1820 cottage is flint and brick and has been sprayed with Sandtex render.
We have damp along one wall, inside it is about 5ft high.
We think some of this damp was due to a leaking roof, now fixed.
Outside we have picked off about half a meter of render and inside that part of the wall is drying out.
We have dug a french drain the full length of this wall.
My plan is to pick off the render all round the house at about 5ft high, replace any broken bricks and re-lime mortar the brickwork and then apply a breathable brick sealant, and paint it again with a breathable paint, throwing in some sand so that the old render above matches the new breathable 5ft band around the house.
My question is, will this let the house breathe? even if inside some of the walls are not painted in breathable paint?
Thanks
Chloe
