Fireback

This was found by a contractor behind the back of a fireplace of a grade 2 building in Sussex we are almost done renovating. I was told it’s a fireback? Is that correct? Sorry for the stupid question

Even fake ones that have been given a brush and a bit of stove black go for over £200 on eBay these days

That design was one of the popular ones to be reproduced but either way original or not they look great when set up with the fire dogs and grate. Or you could do whole hog (pardon the pun) and get the spit and other accoutrements like I have. Before anyone says it, I know I'm a nerd .

Behind the back of a fireplace… sounds slightly odd. A bit more context would help.

It’s certainly a fireback, whether it’s genuine is a different question, remarkably little wear for 400 years of roaring fires...

Coo, we had one too, but ours came with onions, mustard and ketchup!
