Bio Ethanol Heating System

I have a vague memory of someone here mentioning they were considering, or had installed, a bio ethanol heating system and thought this article may be of interest concern for some.

Crikey, this is bad. I had recently considered one of these bio ethanol fireplaces for our upstairs office just as an occasional thing to have on that was straightforward to install while the chimney is capped. I thought better of it when I read about how they give off toxic fumes and need to be used in well ventilated areas.

Very scary. I had thought about one for our fireplace that’s non functional chimney wise, but always had reservations because it is an actual flame and that always seemed like a risk. Think I will stick with occasional candles in a big glass cylinder.

I saw that report and it reminded me of staying with grandparents as a nipper. Their only heating was an open fire in the 'parlour' but as a special treat for their grandchildren they had one of those triangular paraffin heaters in the bedroom. I can still remember the smell I think I'll stick to burny things with an external flue.
