Hello All Thatch Owners, we have cleared our loft of very old, matted, itchy insulation and are seeking to replace with the recommended 270mm, can anyone give experience or advice of what insulation has worked for yourselves please?
Thanks in advance.
Historic England did some info you could download a few years ago about insulating thatch. If you want to create a cold roof with insulation at joist level, it's important to make sure the loft is well ventilated.
Alternatively, use the thatch as a warm roof. Insulation can also be added at rafter level. Thatch in good condition is a good insulator on it's own, provided there isn't a massive air flow in the loft.
