I’m replacing some water damaged panelling on our upstairs landing and have found one of the joists is partly rotted. It seems dry and no evidence of fungus from what I can see. (Also included pictures of other joists with no issues)
The joist is 9 inches (approx 23cm) deep and the only area I can dig out with a screwdriver is in the top1-2cm.
Would people recommend woodhardener and filler? Or other solutions? We’ve had joists sistered on the ground floor but this one doesn’t seem bad enough to risk digging out spaces in the stone wall and sistering.
The leak (from an old roof window) that caused these issues is repaired so the source of the problem is dealt with. I’ve removed rotten and woodwormed panels, battens and floorboards as well. Cleared old debris and will leave an inch gap between the new floorboard and stone wall to allow for ventilation.
Any advice appreciated!
