Hello Forum members, I'm looking for your advice/experience.
Brick cottage c1840, single-skin walls, no cellar, concrete floors downstairs. Bricks 7" engineering/Flettons, lime mortared this summer.
One room flooded due to Babet (second time flooded here). Water got in either from under centre of house to which we have no access, or through old air bricks - the type with a metal grill - water was rising part way up grill. The latter seem to serve no function as the floors were long ago replaced with concrete (in the flooded room the floor was relaid about 12 years ago with new membrane). Moreover, from floor to window sill is 80cm. From sill to top of air brick is 70cm.
Seems to me that the air bricks could be closed off with bricks. Alternative suggested to me is air brick covers, but could find only one online and it showed no dimensions nor adequate instructions.
Any thoughts, forum members?
Thanks
