Air brick on internal wall?

Hi all, me again. While working on the house and removing skirting board on the wall between this room and the hallway I came across the brick pictured. It feels like the only thing blocking it from the other side is the hallway skirting board. Would this have originally been used to aid airflow through the house? If so I’m thinking of reinstating it, perhaps adding a grill over the top or similar.

It's a normal perforated brick on edge, just a bit of a mystery why there was only one of them. Most of the Bridgwater bricks I come across are perforated.

Brick on edge is used for cheapness not sturdiness.
