Can anyone identify this small pipe/cable please?

This is in the ceiling/first floor floor - it’s like a gold colour.

Thought may have been old gas line? But perhaps not!

If it's metal, not a gas pipe and spans the gape between two external walls, it could be an old tie rod/bar. If that's your house in the picture, then there aren't any wall plates at first floor level, so it seems unlikely, but no other ideas - sorry!

I should add it feels plastic (or similar) rather than metallic. Tester says it’s not live wires. It’s running the length of the room between joists but I only have a small portion visible currently between two beams.

Could be conduit with dead wires in. AV cables? Eg speaker wire conduit?

Very unlikely to be gas or water. Were originally lead, then copper, now plastic, water is blue, gas is yellow, have to have specifications printed on the side.

Feel silly now . Apparently it is just 10mm microbore pipe running to the radiator. Nothing more exciting.

When it comes to old houses “nothing exciting“ is an absolute blessing, the usual discovery is something requiring a lot more work and money.
