We have a very old cottage that has original slate floors. We love them and are leaving them exposed in the kitchen and hall. They are as laid when the cottage was built and we don’t want to lift and relay them.
We want to re. carpet the living room. It is already carpeted, by previous owners, and the carpet stays dry. They used synthetic/rubber underlay.
We want to use wool felt underlay.
We are concerned that the felt underlay will wick moisture from the floor though. Is there a suitable membrane we can use under the felt to prevent this whilst allowing the building/floor to breathe.
Has anyone had this issue or know what we need to do.
