Hi folks
I'm getting roof redone and at same time trying to sort chimney out, get damp on chimney breast in attic room when rains. Brickwork not in great condition. Can't decide whether to rebuild top few courses using original/salvaged bricks of same age using lime mortar, or to rebuild fully from roof line incorporating lead tray and using modern bricks which are presumably less likely to absorb water.
Any wisdom? Chimneys are quite a prominent feature of the house so want it to look right, so think it has to be one or the other rather than a hybrid of using new bricks for top few courses.
