I live in a timber framed 1692 cottage in Nottinghamshire. In winter 21/22, I had a guttering leak in the cast iron at the front which I was slow to mend. It soaked the fascia and also some of the oak wall plate. Noticing some frass below the wall plate, in April 2022 I had a survey followed by treatment and full remedial works . This involved replacing the guttering with new cast iron, replacing the fascia and treating the timbers/ wall plate for woodworm and for death watch beetle. The work has a guarantee from Rentokill.
A couple of weeks ago I heard the ominous tapping sound of beetle at night. I contacted the treatment provider and was told that beetles can emerge after successful treatment for a couple of years. I have the option to bring them back out to re-survey. I also contacted the CO who took the view that drying timbers is the best way forward rather than treatment.
I'd like any thoughts on ways forward from this forum. The options appear to be basically :
1) Wait and See
2) Pay to call out the timber treatment folk again to see if the treatment has worked ( not sure how they will assess this )
3) apply some sort of re treatment to the wall plate myself ( but this will apparently negate the guarantee)
Help !!
