Anyone have anyone any thoughts on epoxy DPM for floors?
We've an farm worker's terrace cottage that was built sometime between 1820 & 1880
It's made of clay bricks that came from the River Severn and are notorious for having a high salt content.
It's been buggered about with over the years - someone put gypsum plaster and a cement based render on the back wall about 30 yrs ago which is hardly ideal
There's been some DPC added to the walls over the years - back wall has had a physical barrier inserted and at least one of the party walls was injected with a liquid DPM when a adjacent house was renovated.
The ground floor appears to have a bitumen sheet DPM that's attached to the walls with copper nails and then concreted over which was probably added in the 50s or 60s
Recently we had the skirting boards removed (some had rot due to moisture being trapped) and the bottom of the walls treated with fungicide / biocide
The company doing the work also some fungus growing under the carpet and teated it.
They suspect the original DPM has failed in places so we're getting sweating under the carpet and have recommended using a epoxy DPM on the floor
Just wondering what people's views of epoxy DPMs are and if anyone has used them?
The company have a good reputation with old buildings in the local area and we've happily used them for other work
We know that we're never going to completely cure the damp issues – we've already improved ventilation, lowered ground outside etc.
If I was staying here another 20yrs I'd dig up the floor and relay it with insulation, UFH and all that jazz… I'd also add footings but we're planning on moving next year
