After excavating some of the concrete farmyard in front of our 1850 farmhouse, we've discovered a long narrow brick trough 490cm x 105cm surrounded by large greenstone cobbles. It was built as a 'model' dairy farm and we think it was for the cows as it has a rendered curved base. We think the cobbles will probably extend on two other sides although they are damaged at one end where a modern water trough had been installed. Is anyone familiar with this kind of feature?
