Good afternoon.
We believe our home was built roughly 1780's and it's a stone cottage. The plaster downstairs is gypsum and we have been taking it off to allow the stone to breathe. Plus we found some mould in places and the plaster was crumbling. Our plan was to replaster with lime, however, now the stone is exposed, we love it. I'd like to repoint it in lime mortar and have the stunning stone wall as a focal point of the kitchen. The units will be going across the photo of the kitchen wall beneath the window as well as the sink. Will I need to seal the stone, or should it be left for breathability?
However the downstairs bathroom was even worse with damp and mould when we moved in, so for ease I've really started off her first. Our plan is to have the washing machine and tumble dryer in her stacked in the corner where the shower head currently is. Would you recommend or advise we leave the walls exposed on the downstairs bathroom or replaster with lime? As you can see, in the bathroom picture, we have the original bread oven.
Thank you for any advice shared.
