Gable roof

Hi all,
Question about rendering up to the roof on a gable.

We're currently preparing our large gable wall for rendering in hot lime, including fixing bits of brickwork at the top of the wall.

The roof is made up of older cement fibre tiles and a membrane, and there is no fascia or dry verge.

Where would people recommend filling up to and rendering up to. Additionally would people recommend a seal such as burnt sand mastic to join the slates and render.

I think my first concern with that roof would be the possibility of high winds getting under the tiles and lifting them all off. As you intend to render that face of the wall I would suggest that the render coat is pressed into the gap between the gable and the tiles to limit that possibility. I also do not think a burnt sand mastic would be at all helpful.

you should point up the gaps under the tiles level with the brickwork in a lime mortar, then render over the wall up to the roof tiles as normal

Curious as to the building and why you haven’t got a principal rafter/final common truss sat on top of the wall? That would normally pick up the tile edge with a barge board proving coverage of the area. It looks like those end tiles have a lot of overhang and little support on their outer edge.

As said previously, to make good what’s there without introducing timber elements, then make sure your base coat mix is nice and hairy and push into the gap between tile and wall a decent depth to pack out the tile and to create a good nib attached to the wall render with no joins in plaster.
