Half an old step

Until yesterday, the top stone step was encased in a block of concrete.

I removed the concrete—hoping to find an old stone—but sadly, all that was revealed was a badly-knocked-about half-an-old-stone. Is there anything to do with it, aside from replacing it? I guess trying to repair it could leave it looking worse than now?

The door is unused—blocked from the other side—so I could go the route of a planter or rockery plants growing from the gap between the stones.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Presumably that's a public footpath? You may need to get some advice from your local Building Control team; they can get a bit sticky about these things. Personally I would favour getting a new stone, or even stones, cut to replace the damaged ones which would not be terribly expensive I think but installing them could be a costly project in its own right.

BTW - I like the scooter.

You could always face it in stone and add a stone top to it by cutting down an appropriate stone flag.
