Hello all,
I have just joined and would really appreciate some help if possible. I've been looking at this forum for a few issues and you all seem really helpful! We have taken on a 1860s property, complete with peeling wallpaper and plenty of fun issues to work out.
I have chipped off a gypsum skim off a small patch of wall which was blistered. I was just hoping to get some help identifying what I'm looking at.
There is a mortar fill on the right, but my guess is the rest of it is lime? The top coat (render) being a flat grey/white, the yellowy white the float and the crumbly grey the base coat?
I'm trying to get everything back to breathable - this was an external wall which is now internal but slightly damp. Unfortunately most walls have a gypsum skim to remove!
Also does it get darker and crumblier at the bottom because of moisture?

Thanks for everyones time!
