Hello!
I live in an end of terrace Victorian era house. I've recent made the cellar able to breathe again, as it was sealed up and left to sweat by the previous owners. It has spent a month or so now drying out and I realised I need to make a plan for how to insulate the ceiling, as it is right below the office.
Attached is a picture of the cellar ceiling at the moment. I'm wanting to insulate it, while also allowing it to still breathe. My thinking is I will use wood fibre insulation, but I am drawing a blank on how is best to secure it up in between the beams.
The previous owners had a sort of vinyl sheet up before, which when taken down was damp and smelly.
I know you can't really have insulated and breathable at the same time, but I would like the office to have some protection from the winter chills of the cellar. Also, now that the walls can breathe and there is a bit of ventilation (literally vent in window) in the cellar, I don't think there would be much of a concern of damp/moisture, but I wonder if you lovely people know of what way is best to secure the wood fibre.
I also have electric down there now, so am thinking of getting a dehumidifier that can cope in the winter, again helping to prevent sweating/damp concerns.
In conclusion, how would you insulate this cellar ceiling??
Thank you for reading!
