Hello There period property experts!!
I hope you are well? I'm Ralph and I'm posting all the way from Ireland!
Question for you guys.....I am renovating an 1800's build house, two storey, stone walls 450mm thick. Its a small house, two up, two down type of house.
The house looks great from the outside. Anyway, it was derelict for 40 years plus when I came to own it. I gutted it inside as it was necessary, roof had been leaking badly and everything was damaged. Below is a list of what I have done;
And now…I am at the stage of plastering the internal walls of the house and my conundrum is this, I have read a lot about Diasen Diathonite Evolution and its insulation qualities but it is very expensive.
With that in mind, what alternative options are available that allow breathability, insulating values and a good finish that can support a kitchen, shelves, typical living.
I do not want to stud the walls as it will take up so much space.
I estimate that there are about 110m2 of the internal face of external walls to treat with a system.
What products have you to suit this and what are the prices please?
Any help appreciated folks!!
Many thanks,
Mr Ralph

The house looks great from the outside. Anyway, it was derelict for 40 years plus when I came to own it. I gutted it inside as it was necessary, roof had been leaking badly and everything was damaged. Below is a list of what I have done;
- Walls are 450mm thick.
- House is plastered externally with sand and cement and this was done 50 or 60 years ago, this is staying in situ as its perfect.
- House is dry and has no damp issues that I can see anyway.
- It was derelict since 1979 and when I went renovating, I stripped out everything including the original lime plaster inside…(probably should have left this but it was showing signs of age in spots, wet in areas from leaking roof etc)
- I have drainage done outside, French drain installed and the house is on a site with a big fall.
- I redone the roof with natural slate, breathable felt and roof vents
- New doors and windows were installed, these are triple glaze with vents. Sash windows, they look great in fairness.
- The house is first fixed for electric and plumbing
- All joisting between GF and FF was replaced and OSB subfloor is installed on the FF
And now…I am at the stage of plastering the internal walls of the house and my conundrum is this, I have read a lot about Diasen Diathonite Evolution and its insulation qualities but it is very expensive.
