I have an exterior facing internal wall which I need to replaster with lime plaster, but I am concerned it might look more rustic compared to the other walls which are finished with gypsum plaster. Is it possible to achieve a similar finish with lime plaster? Thank you!

Yes, defo. I will be doing this in the near future. My internal walls will be gypsum and external walls lime.
Lime work, can achieve a far greater tolerance and finish than modern gypsum. IF you have the correct materials and experienced plasterer.
Some of the regency work was pure marble dust to got a polished finish.
Obviously overkill, but my point is that lime does not equal lumpy, bumpy, rough etc or as some may say, rustic. It can, but again down to who is applying it and what aggregates and materials are used…
Simply troweling a putty top coat will be as flat as you need.

Yes, the finishing coat of lime can be polished and is more preferable to a rustic finish imho. You won't know the difference in comparison to the gypsum walls if applied correctly and decorated with the same paint. Some lime professionals apply a final pass of lime putty for extra smoothness but I don't know why, you can get a decent finish with the standard finishing coat.
With some perseverance, and the risk of pulling too much fat up, I got a remarkably smooth trowelled finish on 4mm stuff. Not many other panels that will get that treatment here though, only the rooms which have existing to match at a similar finish! Also horrible to apply distemper or limewash to, way too smooth!
Depends who is undertaking the work? Their preference for mats. Location. Price to an extent. etc…
Personally I source all my stuff from Eden HotLime. I’ve nowhere close enough to me to not need shipping and I tend to buy in bulk as a pallet costs the same full or empty! They are a bit keener on pricing to which helps, but that’s not the main factor.
Their lime is great, for the smaller sizes, the plastic sealable tubs are brilliant and very reusable. I’ve wasted loads of Ty Mwar product in the past due to the weak plastic sacks it comes in. Also way harder to shift and store, aside the splitting. I also really like dealing with Carl there, helped me out on a lot of corners I’ve backed myself into timewise and has always bent over to get things sorted.
What products you need, coat build up, will depend on many conditions. Best to give him a call to discuss as one size doesn’t really fit all.
