living in a castle

one of my neighbours has their house on the market, l always wanted to have a look and they usually have a open house on Hogmanay but weren't well enough this year. Today l was invited in to have a look, with the owners knowing l wasn't a possible purchaser. I would really like to have met Tom who did the renovation as they rebuilt this place from rubble, but unfortunately he is no longer with us.

This place is 100yds away as the crow flies, or less than a mile by road, it has a spectacular feeling to it

It's beautiful but not much cop if you like natural daylight. Titchy windows - knock some great picture windows through and get some nice UPVC - job done

I was very intrigued when I saw Kilmartin advertised in the Saturday telegraph property section--what an amazing place! Love the combination of the rugged original interior features and modern day style. It would be a bit dark and spooky at times though! Lovely grounds .

I wonder how they got electric cables into a bare stone ceiling. Tucked into the pointing I suppose.

Considering that it could have cost a mint to restore, and has relatively little value, a labour of love indeed.

All very romantic, but there's something not very 'cosy' about a castle, even a smallish one like this example and especially in the Scottish climate. Perhaps this is reflected in the price?

I was surprised how cosy it felt when l walked round, mind you the log burner was going and at times it was too hot .
The climate around Kilmartin is a secret so don't tell anyone but we are on the gulf stream so its warm and moist most winters, we don't get much snow in fact Sothern England has had more snow than us over the last five years
