Period conshu pipes

After the electrician failed to fix the leaky shower on Friday the plumber was duly summoned. He looked around at the puddles and where water was seeping from and said it could be various different things. One of which was the "conshu pipe" Not being fluent in plumber speak I thought it was probably a special Singapore thing and I would search later. Mr Google could offer no sensible help even though I tried various spellings. I was about to give up when I remembered that English wasn't his first language and figured what he was talking about was a "concealed" pipe. I am so glad I only informed the agent in very general terms as to what he had said!

You have to understand that English is almost never a plumber's first language (professionally speaking, anyway).

They speak an obscure dialect called 'plumbingbollocks' which has been specifically developed over the centuries to confuse and obfuscate. That way they can (a) charge whatever they like, (b) claim that they explained it all to you before they started the job and (c) blame someone else if it all goes wrong.

Hmm, I take exception to that Penners being an old plumber (worker in lead) myself. That's a load of ballcocks and male threads if you ask me with a bib cock thrown in... Seems Lady A could do with a 'three branch hand' to sort her problem... not a pig-lugger.

Unfortunately, Doug, few of today's generation of plumbers have inherited the skills of your generation. Try asking a young plumber these days to sweat a lead joint.

Ha ha... trying getting them to sweat could be difficult. Years since I've done one. I think any lead pipes have to be taken out now and not joined on to although I did see a special lead to copper coupling for sale not long ago.

The first joint I did went sugary and crumbled onto the floor. The next one ended in a puddle alongside the first one. Got there in the end though...
