Porcelain Tiles on Limecrete Floor

Hello,

Looking for some advice if possible…

We’ve just had a limecrete floor laid (approx. 7 weeks ago) and I’m struggling to find information on how best to lay porcelain tiles on a limecrete floor.

if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

There are a number of breathable adhesives and grouts that will happily bond to and with limecrete floors. Mike Wye markets several and I'm sure that Ty Mawr would also be able to supply them. Give one of them a call and ask for some recommendations.

Surely porcelain tiles are impervious? So why effectively seal a limecrete floor?

I recently used AdhereCal to affix my 2cm limestone slabs to my hall's limecrete floor. Sadly that product was not a available when I did the previous floor job in the kitchen in 2011 so I used NHL which has worked fine since.

Surely porcelain tiles are impervious?

No. Porcelain is less permeable than some ceramics and merely resist moisture penetration if glazed on all sides. The rear face is typically left unglazed to achieve a better bond with the adhesive materials.
