Yes you do need an accurate rebuild valuation, otherwise what are you insuring?I’ve just been told pre-renewal by RIAS (low quote last year!) that my cover isn’t sufficient for my £1.2m G2 and I now need to get a chartered surveyor to run a valuation report for rebuild which is looking like £950. Is this usual? NFU asked for it. Would others (more usual suspects) need this too?
However, paying a grand for a chartered surveyor is silly, rebuild cost assessment were 180 a year or so ago, one of the go tos for the market.
Many will debate their accuracy etc, but check the terms, if there’s a shortfall if the worst happened, their liability would pick up the issues, not your wallet.
