Does anyone have experience of reinstating historic windows in their listed building who'd like to pass on some advice?
Our conservation builder (who I'd definitely recommend if you're in the Kent/Sussex Weald area) pointed out there's a strong chance our metal casement windows were once leaded with square panes. The metal frames are still in place with the casement hung on a hinge pin, twisted metal window stays and tulip leaf handles, however the casements no longer have the leading. I can also see the little dents where the leaded sections connected to the frames.
They're very similar to the ones on page 10 of this doc:

I was very excited to learn this as the windows have been bugging me since we first saw the house. Something just doesn't look right and I couldn't put my finger on it. To me they look far too modern for a C17 timber framed wealden house.
Here are few photos of the windows in case anyone else can see it too!

I'd really like them refurbed and looking more like these:

Does anyone have any experience of convincing a CO that older style windows should be reinstated? What worked (or didn't work) for you?
