Remove paint from sandstone walls

Hello. I live in a Georgian property. Previous owner painted the garden sandstone walls white and repaired with cement render. It looks terrible now- flaking etc.
how would you recommend removing the paint? Is that possible or even sensible? There's a lot of wall area too.
Previous owner lived here for over 50 years and looks like repainted the walls many times.
