Removing an Internal Door in a Grade 2 Listed cottage

I don't know why but after watching the fab Grand designs last night - (Francis you've done well there - BOOTIFUL!!) I was thinking about CO's etc. I have recently taken down AND PUT IN MY GARAGE an unwanted internal door - I intend keeping said door in the garage for future owners but whilst I live in the cottage its more practical for me to not have the hassel of a door leading directly onto my staircase from the living room.I doubt very much the door is an original 18thC one more like 1930's. BUt any views on whether my CO might be annoyed - I had assumed it would be ok to take it down as long as I kept it. - Any reassurances gratefully received - (I'm only just recovering from you all having a go at me about calling my neghbour eccentric a few months ago so please be kind)

The whole point of listing is so that the character of the cottage is preserved so I doubt they would have an issue with removing a door (and keeping it so it can be replaced) - your best option would be to drop the CO an email to ask. Do it in a "I'd like to take the door off as it's obstructive, but will keep it dry/safe/secure so it can be put back on at a later date - is this ok with you?" type of way. If he says no, you could always just prop it against the wall in the room so it looks like it's fitted!

A door however is a fixture and fitting probably - however, if it's not too historic then maybe temporary removal is OK.

But I would check with the CO and ensure also that it is stored safely. You could have issues reselling in future if the door is missing.

I am now having kittens about the old bathroom door that we 'skipped' when we had our new bathroom done! Our LBC didn't mention anything about retaining the old Victorian cracked panel door, which you could see right through. How much should we REALLY worry about these smaller things? I need to know!

PS. House is 15thC. Suppose I should not even have a bathroom at all.

You might find that the lack of this door makes your living room draughtier and/or more expensive to heat.

Many thanks everyone for your views - I will drop the CO an email to ask and yes its being kept in a garage. Re Penners views on heating costs - in fact this is one of the reasons I took the door off - I have an excellent wood burner in the Ingle nook fireplace and it is so efficent the living room was like an oven when it was burning - this way the heat disperses to all areas of the house so I actually get a bigger bang for my bucks!
