Hello, we are unsure what to do with the concrete living room floor in our 1850s granite cottage.
I've been reading online. One piece of advice that made sense was:
- Dig outside to find how deep the cottage walls are in the earth (there is no foundation)
- Make a hole in the concrete in the centre of the room to see how thick the concrete is
I am concerned about the no foundation part, and retaining structural integrity, so removing the concrete feels risky. However, I would like to remove the concrete floor and lay flagstones on the earth or limecrete (from other research, which I need to read more about).
Thank you for any advice (we're new at renovation and already got some great advice on this forum)
