Hi, I have a stone property built in 1835, the walls are circa 2 ft thick. The gable end has been rendered at some point back in the 60/70s. In the rooms at this side of the house the moisture content is generally higher than other rooms away from this gable. I am considering hacking off the render, sand blasting and then lime mortar pointing, do you think this will resolve the moisture readings inside the house? TIA

Hi, thank you for your response. I’ve checked all the rainwater pipes they all seem ok. Subject to the state of the stone, I’d prefer to have the stone exposed. Any idea on pointing cost per M2?Might well do - assuming you have checked all the likely culprits like rainwater management then that would likely be your next step.
To save the sandblasting step - once the cement is removed you could apply a lime render instead.
