Replacing NEW windows with original

We've just bought a 1930s house and the original wooden windows have been replaced with new plastic ones. Any ideas on restoring these to something that better replicate the original wooden ones. Is there any legislation preventing us from doing this? Thanks!

Your windows will have to be compliant with building regs, double glazed and incorporating trickle vents. Exceptions to listed buildings of course. There are loads of window threads on here to search , good luck

I'm not sure trickle vents are mandatory, I thought so but I recall someone saying not on a thread a while ago.

It always seems barmy to me that sealing up a house is required by modern regs then all manner of vents have to be introduced.

...which are steel but the op said they were wooden. Trickle vents are just one of the various ways of ensuring adequate ventilation - not mandatory.

Oak windows with dg sealed units would meet modern regs no problem.

Sliding sashes dont need trickle vents, probably because they are trickle vents.
