iv'e just exposed a brick internal wall and want to use it as a feature in our kitchen,the property is approx 130 yrs old, what kind of sealer can be used
to encapsulate the brickt/mortar and to leave a matt finish ps. it is not damp

Wickes (or Dulux, or, for that matter just bout any exterior paint manufacturer) do a Stabilising Primer that sounds ideal for your task, it is absorbed and virtually undetectable.

Bear in mind that in a kitchen you will run the risk of a lot of sticky greasy deposits from cooking accumulating on rough brick and any ledges where the pointing is recessed which will attract and keep dust and grime like superglue. A good cooker hood extractor will help but not necessarily eliminate it. I left a stone wall unplastered in the kitchen and regretted it for that reason - it's a real b****r to clean. I will be re-doing the kitchen in the next year or so and will clean and plaster that wall...

Also remember that the wall may not be damp from external sources, but it may get damp from condensation from the steam from cooking, sinks full of hot water, etc. Very good ventilation will help, but a hard, impermeable surface may not be a good idea.
