11 years ago we removed the sand and cement render from our house and re-rendered with lime. We limewashed it and were super-happy. The limewash took really well and the house is a lot happier having done this - and so are we
.
In 2025 I decided to give it another coat of limewash. This was just at the start of COVID and I didn't put any hessian up. So despite wetting the walls down and keeping it damp, the limewash really didn't take well at all. Over the last 5 years it has been flaking off, particularly when there us heavy, driving rain.
I am tempted to use SecilTek Isovit Silicate Paint this time around as scaffolding is super-expensive and I am hoping that this will last longer than limewash. This comes recommended by our "local" supplier of all things lime - Mike Wye. I'd value people's comments on the product.
I intend to use warm water and a sponge to get any flaking limewash off. Any other thoughts before I apply this product? I know that there is a primer to apply first.... Gonna cost a load more than limewash but hopefully it will last twice as long...
Thanks in advance for your thoughts - we hope to get the scaffolding up in the next couple of weeks so I'll be putting in an order to Mike Wye fairly soon...
Cheers
