You're lucky.
My staircase had to have thick dirty brown shellac varnished taken off with meths which took over three months to do.
That was over 20 years ago but not a day goes by that I don't still look at the turned wood with pleasure.

Lime-I'm very glad the staircase was naked as it makes this job so much easier than yours!
PP- yes, put in by the previous owner.
Penners, I do a whole section before stopping for a drink/wee snack. I'm hoping weight loss comes easily when I'm going up and down the stairs. :lol:

I want to be there all the time but have the day job to do. I am determined to have the whole staircase finished by
June! The decorators want to help, for a fee , but I want to be able to do it myself and have that satisfaction. They have more than enough to keep them occupied
