Striaght line painted skirting

Morning all,

We are giving our hall a freshen up and as you can see somewhere over time the previous owners have plastered without removing the skirting. Meaning its all over the placs. How to i get a straight ish painted edge for the skirting, other than knocking the wall back.

use masking tape to establish your edge?

Personally i'd be tempted to go with the flow, or the curves. It doesn't look like a house that would have many straight lines?

Cant really use masking tape. The wall goes in and out over the skirting. I dont mind its curvy as such it just dont look nice. Almost like its badly painted

Can you sand the plaster back to correct profile for a few inches above the skirting, and then sculpt the shape of the skirting back

The photo isnt particularly clear but the current appearance doesnt look too bad, nice and soft to my eye

Tried and thats what im left with. Got another coat to put on so will see how it looks

Paint the skirting the same colour as the wall?
