The most beautiful dormers

stands out for me because of its beautifully designed dormers, a feature of which most builders seem to make a clumsy mess.

Unfortunately the pics aren't great and don't enlarge well. Do the dormers have squint windows, or is that the hangtiles falling off...

Stunning property in a great location - ideally placed for commute to either Glasgow or Edinburgh. It will of course be snapped up...and doubtless modernised beyond all recognition!

Dormers look normal to me. Side windows have the lower-sash bottom-rail angled to match the slope of the roof and glazed accordingly.

EDIT: So, having done a search on Google images, I can't find any pictures of this configuration of dormer! So not as common as I assumed! Is this a peculiarly rural Scottish style?

I can't see that the bottom rail of the side sashes are angled to meet the roof slope - it looks to me as if the side windows are just the height of the upper half of the front ones?
But that type of canted dormer is a characteristically Scottish one.

You are probably correct on this example, but I believe that having both an upper and lower sash to the side window is also quite common.

I help look after a C-listed cottage and just last weekend was trying to work out what the essential repairs for this year would be. The two dormers (described in the listing as "canted wallhead dormers in outer bays, 4-pane glazing") are exposed to salt spray and westerly winds and in need of work. It would be nice to be able to free up the old paint to get them working properly again but, sadly, funds and time preclude a full overhaul. On these ones, the lower side sashes have the bottom rail angled but should have full sash functionality. I'll try and find a pic, or take some next time I am there.
