Victorian glass door transom light replacement

Hi there, after an accident over the holiday period our front door plain transom light glass which was damaged is now badly cracked. I need to source a replacement (original if possible or like for like with the same ripples and occasional semi-bullseye etc) for the glass which I think may be Victorian rolled glass. The rough dead sizes are 3'x18" and the original was about 130 years old. Any advice appreciated....

A picture might help. It might be hard to find the same glass but before you chuck out the broken pieces consider how clever modern glue technology has become. If this were a piece of something truly irreplaceable, such as medieval stained glass, one would certainly just glue it back together. They used to insert a piece of lead came but there's no need for that now.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. I will have a go at taking and uploading pictures later today or tomorrow. The glue may work but the cracks are quite large and the pane is a bit loose so i will have to take some action quite soon. How difficult is it to glue the pieces and who can provide that kind of service? Also I understand thatthere may be a chance of using some imported modern rolled glass with the same ripples etc but i have not been able to source anything as yet. An antique piece would be bettr but I may have limited choices. Thank you once again for the help.

It just happens that I have some pieces of possibly 150 year old wavy glass about 7" x 35" in frames (from a rotten Venetian sash window) and could let you have one or two. If you are vaguely close, could you collect from Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire area? (Far too fragile for any commercial means.) PM me.

Hello there,thank you for the kind offer. As I am in East Yorkshire the glass would have to be right or slightly larger (36x18") for it be worth the travel. It seems that the 7" would be around one third of the glass height so if the sizes are right I would have to decline at this time. If anything else turns up please let me know. Regards

Well, I should have also said that the brain and other faculties are fast fading as well, so it's difficult to know exactly what to blame! Certainly not vodka; the real whisky, perhaps, but even that's been in short supply. At least after all the work on my house I feel fitter than I have been for 19 years, but that's precious little use on its own.

Edited two days later to remove the spare apostrophe (it's) before Penners sees it. More brain trouble.
