Hi, we’ve recently moved into our new (old) house - 1910s semi - and I’m compiling a list of the jobs to be done (eventually). This forum is amazing for making sure what we are doing is sympathetic to the property and working with it not against it.
Something that is puzzling me are the doors. They look like the original internal doors, but have been stripped of paint/varnish at some point in their past. Possibly a DIY job as you can see remnants of paint in odd places.
On every door, there are patches that look damp and feel sticky and slightly soft to touch as if the wood is swollen. I’m wondering if it’s whatever was used to get the paint off.
If so, any ideas what it might be and what we could use to remove it?
Don’t know if it makes any difference but I don’t think the previous owners did anything very much to the property, so it’s been at least 10years since it was done.
Thanks all for your wisdom! I’m sure I will have many more questions over the coming days/weeks/months/years…
