Having taken the decision to change all the windows and doors and after having been in discussion with our local listed building guy I would like your opinions.
He is not averse to double glazing as long as thin units,14mm max which is okay by me.
The front of the house will look unchanged except that the windows which are a totally different design to round the back will have flying mullions to make them look
more balanced.
Problem is around the back as in the two pics attached. The windows were fitted sometime in the early 80s. He has suggested that the units are more flush which he says will be more in keeping.
I am not disagreeing with that.
The quandary is how many glazed units per window. As you can see in photo 1 there are 6 units per light downstairs and 4 upstairs and in photo 2 there are 8.
We will keep 4 upstairs but like to reduce the 6 downstairs to 4 and probably on the 8 go down to 6, and on all windows get rid of the useless, in my opinion, the top opening lights. Now the council guy asked had we considered windows with just one horizontal glazing bar, well no.
I cannot really imagine just one horizontal glazing bar especially in the current 8 unit windows. He thinks it will look nicer and again be more in keeping. He has said though it is not his decision but ours.
I have looked at lots of windows and am undecided.
Any comments or suggestions.
Regards
