Hi,
So yet another renovation grows beyond its original estimate, "we'll paper that wall and paint the others" we naively said as we moved the tools into the dining room. "Hopefully we'll be done for the weekend".
Many weekends later and the fireplace has been re-instated, that wall has indeed been papered and the others painted.
However, when I lifted what I assumed to have been a replacement timber hearth between the dining room and kitchen one of the floorboards underneath came up too.
Revealing...... the rotten ends of some sistered floor joists in the suspended flooring underneath.
From what I can see it's a fairly minor repair, however, since I am now committed to lifting at least the first 4 rows of boards I figured "in for a penny" etc etc.
So, I want to insulate. Using wool between joists. I'm fairly sure what's needed except for what goes directly under the boards...
The space is too small for me to get in so all work will be from above. I plan fixing a breathable membrane to the joists (90x90mm) to form hammocks in the gaps, then filling the gaps with 100mm deep wool insulation.
My question is what to put over this. I think a vapour control barrier should go down before the boards are refitted but would really like some confirmation.
Also, if anybody can recommend brands or websites I'd be very grateful.
Many Thanks,
Paul.
